An important public awareness meeting was held at Champa Mil Chowk, Jamalpur, Ahmedabad,under the leadership of Nasruddin Sheikh, regarding the S.I.R. Enumeration Form, in which a large number of people were present. Advocate Shamshad Pathan was present as the main speaker in this meeting and along with him, Congress leader Junaid Sheikh, Congress ward president Qayyum Qureshi, social worker Sharif Malik and Advocate ImtiyazKhan Pathan also joined in guiding the people. All of them got together and gave very clear guidance by removing the misconceptions, misinformation and doubts prevailing among the people regarding the S.I.R. process. Advocate Shamshad Pathan explained to the people in clear words that PAN Card and Driving License will be considered valid only if they are from 1987 or earlier. Nowadays, the PAN and License that people have are issued after 1987, so they are generally not considered valid in the S.I.R. process. He further said that the identity card or recommendation letter given by MLA or MP has no legal value in the S.I.R. process and such things are just rumors to mislead people.
Giving a simple explanation on how to fill the form, he said that first you should check whether your name or any member of your family is in the 2002 electoral list or not. If your name is in the list, then columns 1 and 2 of the form have to be filled; if your name is not there but your parents or grandparents have names, then columns 1 and 3 have to be filled; and if no name of your family is in the 2002 list, then only column 1 has to be filled. He further clarified that the right to decide categories like A, B, C, D, E, F belongs to BLO, ERO and DEO – it is not the job of the common citizen, so there is no need to worry or worry about this.
The people were informed in the meeting that Booth Level Officer (BLO) will be present at their respective booths today, Saturday, November 16, and tomorrow, Sunday, November 17, both days. Those who have not taken the form yet should go and get the form today or tomorrow. Those who have taken the form should fill it correctly and show it to the BLO tomorrow for checking and deposit it there. These two days are very important and no citizen should leave themselves out of this process.
Advocate Shamshad Pathan also made a special appeal to the political and social representatives of the area to be present at the booths with their workers and do a coordination work between the people and the Booth Level Officer. According to him, if the representatives are present at the booths, then the people will not be disturbed at all, order will be maintained and the officials will also get cooperation. This cooperation is very important so that every person of the society can easily and comfortably join this process.
