Following the Gujarat High Court’s significant relief to the poor and hardworking slum dwellers in the Ranip Bakra Mandi case, a large meeting was held in the Bakra Mandi area. A large number of affected families, men and women, young and old, attended the meeting.
On this occasion, people welcomed,Advocate Shamshad Pathan, and Advocate Imtiyazkhan Pathan with flowers and expressed their heartfelt gratitude. This honor is truly dedicated to all the lawyers, colleagues, and workers of the Jan Sangharsh Manch who have fought this battle gallantly for the past two decades.
Tribute to the Pillars of the Struggle
At this juncture, we cannot move forward without remembering two of our great mentors:
Late Advocate Dr. Mukul Sinha – founder of the Jan Sangharsh Manch, who transformed the fight for justice, equality, and the rights of workers and slum dwellers into a mass movement. He was the greatest leader and pioneer of this struggle.
Advocate S.H. Iyer, whose legal acumen and fearless advocacy strengthened this case and amplified the voice of the poor in court.
This victory is dedicated to his legacy of struggle.
This struggle is not just about saving homes, but a fight for justice and human rights.
This journey, which began in 2005, continues till today 2025. We not only fought a legal battle in court against the eviction of shelters from poor slum dwellers, but also raised our voices for their rights on the ground.
The Gujarat High Court’s latest order gives new strength to this struggle. The court has clearly stated that
“The AMC must fulfill its promises. No demolition will take place while the case is pending.”

Speaking at the meeting, we said that
this victory is not just us or that of any one lawyer, but of hundreds of families who did not lose courage even in difficult circumstances.
This fight for justice will continue until every affected family receives their rights and dignified housing.
we consider this love and trust of the people a huge responsibility.
The way the people of Bakramandi welcomed with flowers and showered with their blessings today is a greater honor for than any award.
